The owner came to SoBRO PTAC for assistance with government contracting, including but not limited to services such as the bidding process support, MBE certification, NYC/NYS, DBE, SAM, DUNS, Capabilities Statement and Financing. As a result of this assistance, Dirty Gloves Drain Services LLC received contracts with NYC Housing Authority and Sears Holdings Corporation. Furthermore, SoBRO PTAC also facilitated a loan for Dirty Gloves, in the amount of $127,784. from Tru Fund Financial, to help them begin the work on recently acquired contracts.
FINE FARE SUPERMARKET

149 Street Food Corp., doing business as Fine Fare Supermarkets (“Fine Fare”), recently took advantage of a $176,371 grant through SoBRO’s Community Economic Development Program, funded by US Department of Health and Human Services. The grant is providing partial financing for the acquisition of equipment for use by Fine Fare in its new 14,610 square foot supermarket on 149th Street in Mott Haven. The supermarket will provide this economically distressed community with 3,200 square feet of fresh produce, 300 square feet of fresh salad bar equipment, and 1,008 square feet of deli space for prepared and fresh foods. Fine Fare management expects to employ 25 full-time and 23 part-time employees at the supermarket.
SoBRO PTAC personnel prepared and negotiated the grant and equipment leasing agreement pursuant to which the equipment was acquired and leased to Fine Fair.
BRYCE CONSTRUCTION INC.

Bryce Construction is a Bronx-based minority owned company that provides construction services for residential, commercial and industrial buildings. The SoBRO PTAC team provided Bryce Construction assistance with the government contracting process. Most recently, the owner was faced with a challenge in regards to a background check done by an agency. SoBRO PTAC staff assisted the owner with his defense, explaining to the Agency that not all the liens associated belong to Bryce Construction. The company also received assistance with the contract compliance and DBE certification, leading to successful completion of the contract. Furthermore, the client was awarded a contract in the amount of $300,000 from the NYC Department of Design and Construction as well as a contract in the amount $420,000 from the City University of New York.

Alvin Cepeda, President, was provided the necessary assistance to become a successful government contractor. Most recently, Fortune Construction Group Corporation, was awarded a contract to provide construction services for Public School/IS 338 in the amount of #2,337,500.00. SoBRO PTAC is currently assisting the company with the 8(a) certification to expand contracting opportunities in the Federal level.

Recently, they secured a $120,000 contract with Princeton University and a $47,000 contract from the National Science Foundation. SoBRO PTAC has provided JAJ with assistance in identifying bids and other government contracting matters.

Clason Point was awarded contracts from the following agency: Aviation Flight Test Directorate (AFTD), Defense Information Technical Center, DOD US Navy, GSA, Department of Mental Hygiene. Duprey, The Home Improver is a Bronx-based and minority-owned company established in 2008 to provide construction services to commercial, industrial and residential buildings. Mr. Duprey, President/Owner of the company came to SoBRO for government contracting assistance. He was provided assistance with the MBE certifications (NYC/NYS), DBE certification, NYC SCA prequalification, Vendex, and NYC DDC Build it Back prequalification as well as with the MTA mentorship program and financial loan. SoBRO PTAC assisted him to identifying procurement opportunities, bidding process as well as connecting Duprey to the prime contractors. Last year, Duprey was awarded over $100,000 in contracts. The owner, Francisco Duprey, was also assisted and has been accepted in the MTA mentorship program. He is currently working with the contractor and Neighborhood Housing Projects. He also advocate for small businesses in the community promoting SoBRO PTAC and MWBE programs.

Client was assisted with the bidder’s registration for City, State and Federal, MBE certification (City & State), DUNS, CCR registration as well as the HUB Zone Certification. Client was awarded a contract from NYSERDA in the amount of $120,000 and Monmouth Park, NJ for $119,000 to provide solar photovoltaic systems design and installation.

BE Washington Maintenance is a woman and minority-owned company located in the Bronx providing janitorial services to both public and private customers. The owner, Linder Washington came to SOBRO’s PTAC and M/WBE Business Services Team in 2010 seeking assistance with the government contracting process. She was assisted with the MWBE certifications (City/State), CCR registration as well as with the 8(a) certification. She was also assisted with a financial loan, business plan and marketing plan. BE Washington Maintenance was approved with all the certifications stated above. She is currently working on a contract with the US Army Corps of Engineers to provide cleaning services in NY and NJ locations.
Vicole Martinez, President/Owner of Seagull Construction came to SOBRO’s PTAC and M/WBE Business Services Team in 2009 and was assisted with the bidding process to provide construction services to an Army recruitment office as well as a financial loan. Client was provided with assistance in obtaining an 8a mentor/protégée agreement with the US SBA. Client was also approved for $150,000 loan for business expansion.
ZELAYA FENCE SYSTEM
Carlie Edwards, President/Owner of Zelaya Fence System came to SOBRO’s PTAC and M/WBE Business Services Team in 2010 to learn how government contracting works. He was assisted with the process of government contracting including FAR regulations, Procurement Policy Board Rules and the Local Law 29 of NYC. He was approved for both City and State MWBE certifications. As a result, he obtained a contract to provide fencing services for the Whitestone Bridge Project in the amount of $65,500.
